"My name is James Stengel, a licensed Merchant Marine officer who has been sailing deep sea and the Great Lakes for the past 27 years.  One of the benefits of my job is the chance to travel and the opportunity to train/workout while home and aboard ship.

 

During a trip to Australia in 1992, while learning how to surf Bondi Beach, I spent so much time getting knocked off my board and getting pummeled by the wave sets.  I realized if I was going to be a big wave surfer I better start getting serious and get into shape.

 

I started my own exercise program with no guidance and little knowledge of form, technique, nutrition, etc.  Of course, I thought I was doing great, working the chest, arms and shoulders every day while ignoring legs, back and core and little regard for rest and recovery.

 

This all changed about 12 years ago when I met Tina for the first time.  I had observed her with clients and noticed her focus and intensity of the workouts were well above the average trainer.  I summoned the nerve to ask her a few training questions and shortly thereafter Tina began training me.

 

I have had the privilege to train with Tina now for over a decade and followed her when she started Tru Fitness.  I can honestly say the commitment to train with Tina has been one of the best decisions I have made in my life.  We have accomplished a lot together and I'm just as excited for my next workout as I was 12 years ago.

 

I am very proud also to have numerous family members workout with Tina, in particular my mother, who I know is in the very best hands.

"I don't ever remember a time in my life that I was not overweight. My parents put me on several unhealthy fad-diets at an early age. Toward the end of high school, at 17 years of age, I began to work with Tina to lose the weight. I was young, excited to see results and lost a nice amount of weight. However, I went to college and did not make my workouts or diet a priority. I was devastated and ashamed. I remember saying to myself "Tina will be so mad at me!" The next time I saw Tina I was 25 years old. I walked into the gym and she smiled. She didn't say anything about my weight gain. She gave me a hug and asked me if I was going to come back and visit. I told her I was ready and there wasn't a doubt in my mind that I wouldn't get back to my goal weight. I did not get back to my goal weight... I LOST EVEN MORE WEIGHT! Before Tina entered my life, I was at my heaviest weighing 350 pounds, and as of today I am 189 pounds! I could not have done it without Tina! She not only taught me how to properly weight train, she also helped me develop a meal plan, and on those days when my self-esteem was low she was even my life coach. Before Tina I couldn't even bend over and tie my shoes, I was borderline diabetic, I had high fatty liver enzymes, I slept with a C-PAP, and I had to buy al my clothes from specialty stores and websites.

 

Today I am the healthiest I have ever been. Tina did not just help me shed a few pounds... she saved my life! I still jump when I see myself in the mirror... I cannot believe that the person I see reflected back is actually me! Tina started off as just my trainer, I now think of her as my guardian angel.
